Paul,
Does it record S-VHS ???

Most of the time it is IC301 on the Luminance $ Chroma PCB that
solders directly to the mother board. P/N VEFH07B $51.77
A few times I have seen bad high pass filters.
Don't mess with the alignments, it will take you hours to
get it back again.

CAUTION-------------CAUTION-----------CAUTION-----
As they say: Kids, don't try this at home.
Since you don't have the extender for troubleshooting of this
board you will have to solder it to the top of the main mother
circuit board. Since it is on top there is no support for the
foil traces ! There are many that if torn will be close to
impossible to repair. The main and the lumi/chroma boards are
no longer available. If you do solder the board to the top,
use even more care removing ALL of the solder around the circuit
board pins before you try to lift it off. When you solder the
board to the main board do it at a angle to make removal easier.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Before you remove the PCB check the input and output pins that
solder to the main board. I am including the block diagram and
the input/output pin layout along with the wave forms. This should
be enough information for you to find the bad part.
Also, scope out the power supply voltages to this board. I have found
bad regulators (on the main board) that in rare cases might cause
this problem.
If you need more info, just ask.
Dave
